Sevilla FC has renewed the contract of forward Pablo Llamazares until 2026, after securing a record-breaking transfer fee of €15 million from Real Madrid.
Llamazares joined Sevilla in 2018 and quickly established himself as one of the most promising players in the Spanish league. He made his debut for the club in January 2019, scoring two goals in just three appearances before signing a new contract in June 2019.
The 24-year-old scored 20 goals in all competitions last season, helping the La Liga giants to secure their first Champions League title since 2009. However, he faced criticism for his poor form during the campaign, which included a number of controversial comments on social media.
Despite this, Llamazares remained committed to the club and secured a move to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the summer of 2020. The move was seen by many as a step up for the 26-year-old, who had previously been linked with moves to Manchester United and Liverpool.
However, PSG did not offer him a deal, leading to speculation that he would leave the club at the end of his contract. Despite this, Llamazares refused to sign a new contract with PSG and instead agreed to join Sevilla for a reported €30 million.
Sevilla's decision to extend Llamazares' contract is widely expected to be met with support among fans and supporters alike. The move comes after years of struggling performances for the club, and it is likely to be viewed positively by those who have supported the team throughout its history.
As for Llamazares, he will now look forward to a new challenge at the Nou Camp and hopefully continue to make an impact on the pitch. His performances during his time at Sevilla have already earned him widespread praise, and there is no doubt that he will be a valuable asset to the team going forward.
